Why Authentication Matters?

Super-Clones Are Getting Harder to Detect. Your Investment Deserves Certainty.

The pre-owned luxury watch market in Australia is growing fast — and so is the risk. Modern counterfeit watches, particularly imitations of Rolex, Omega, and Patek Philippe, have become so sophisticated that they can deceive experienced collectors at a glance. Altered dials, mismatched movements, replaced components, and outright forgeries are far more common than most buyers realize.

Whether you’re spending $3,000 or $300,000, a formal authentication report is not just peace of mind. It is documented, expert evidence that protects your financial interests — and in many cases, it is required by insurers and estate lawyers.

What We Examine

A Thorough, Physical Examination — Not a Photo Check

Every authentication we perform is conducted in person, by a certified horologist with 25+ years of hands-on experience.

  • Movement — calibre verification, serial cross-reference, condition assessment
  • Dial — printing, indices, originality checks against reference literature
  • Hands — material, finish, and luminescence consistency
  • Case — reference number, serial number, metal verification
  • Crown & Pushers — genuineness and condition
  • Bracelet & Clasp — matching reference, correct clasp type and markings
  • Caseback — engravings, reference to manufacturer records
  • Accompanying Paperwork — where present, cross-referenced with the timepiece

Every finding is documented in a formal written report — suitable for insurance purposes, resale listings, and permanent collection records.

How Does it Work?

Three Steps to Certified Peace of Mind

Fill in the short form at horologist.com.au and tell us about your watch — the brand, reference, and what you need the report for. We’ll confirm availability and next steps.

Once we get a hold of your timepiece, Our certified horologist conducts a thorough in-person examination — including opening the case to inspect the movement.

You get a comprehensive written authentication report documenting all findings. Suitable for insurance, resale listings, estate purposes, or your own records.

Frequently Asked Questions

A watch authentication report is a formal written document produced by a certified horologist confirming the genuineness of a luxury timepiece. It documents the examination of all key components — movement, dial, case, serial numbers, and accompanying paperwork — cross-referenced against manufacturer records. It is accepted by insurers, resellers, and collectors as independent expert verification.

The physical examination typically takes 20–30 minutes, depending on the complexity of the timepiece. The formal written report is then prepared and delivered to you. We recommend contacting us to arrange a time at our Sydney CBD studio.

We authenticate all major Swiss luxury watch brands, including Rolex, Omega, IWC, Breitling, Panerai, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, TAG Heuer, Longines, Cartier, Chopard, and many more. If you’re unsure whether your brand is covered, contact us before booking.

Yes. Our formal written report is suitable for insurance purposes, as well as resale listings, estate records, and permanent collection documentation. We recommend checking with your specific insurer for their requirements, but our reports include all the information typically requested: reference number, serial number, movement calibre, condition assessment, and expert opinion on authenticity.

Yes. The absence of original papers does not prevent authentication. We examine the watch itself — the movement, case, and components — and can confirm authenticity based on physical evidence alone. Original paperwork, where present, is cross-referenced as part of the process.

If our examination reveals that a watch is not authentic, or contains non-original components, this is clearly documented in the report. We will explain exactly which components are not original and the nature of the discrepancy found.
